Live concert with 8 new jazz arrangements,
Jazz trio and string orchestra
Bossa Dorado and I’m Old Fashioned
The gypsy jazz classic Bossa Dorado has been reimagined as a piece featuring the string orchestra. The trap of only assigning long notes to the strings, who are capable of so much more has been avoided like the plague. Left are the strings full of their rhythmic integrity and the English horn + alto flute makes a mysterious appearance. There is a very sizeable intro featuring the orchestra itself, playing independently and exploring tone colour.
I’m Old Fashioned was imagined as a quintessential vocal arrangement. The talented singer Emmalisa Hallander provides her very own and always striking interpretation of yet another jazz classic. This arrangement is complete with soaring violins, rhythmical figures and a piano intro. Quintessentially Jazz with a touch of romanticism.
Body and Soul and Midnight Sun
Two ballad arrangements, one vocal and one for a tenor solist. Romantic strings provide a lyrical and involved background that propels the soloist forward.
Although the arrangements stem from the classic Jazz tradition, efforts have been made to paint with unusual and novel colors. Such as the alto flute and 5 part viola/cello choir in Body and Soul. Or the 23 second long oboe note in Midnight Sun and its chromatically planing sequences of fourths.
Ambient string composition
Crack of Dawn, a short piece depicting the first moments of a new day. When the icy night looses it’s grip.
